How to measure accurately
Measure each dimension twice. Divide L-shaped rooms and alcoves into non-overlapping rectangles. For paint, record each wall separately and subtract doors or windows. For flooring and tiles, check the pack or box details before ordering.
Waste allowances cover cuts, breakages and future repairs. Straight layouts usually need less extra material than diagonal, patterned or heavily cut installations.
